Umm SuqeimYou can enjoy a relative peaceful living while remaining close to o the beach and all the amenities one could wish for. Plus the rents are slightly cheaper than neighboring Jumeira. The area does not have concentration of high-rises (Except Burjj Al Arab Hotel). Umm Suqeim is well linked with the major road networks, and midway between the old centre of Dubai in Deira and the new Dubai emerging further along the coast towards the Marina. The area is popular among expats with kids but the rents are a bit high.
Where to Stay
There is great rang of villas from traditional, old single-storey dwellings and smart multi-bedroom villas to palatial mansions are available in the area. The rent of an older villa is around Dhs.1 20,000, but for this price you may have to pay for any maintenance and repairs. For a detached four or five- bedroom villa, the rent is around Dhs.250, 000.
Where to Shop
The Souk Madinat Jumeirah provides nice shopping options. There’s a Choithram supermarket on Al WasI Road, with a dry cleaners, a good little florist, and a shop that sells CDS, DVDs, and videos. There’s an HSBC ATM, and Al Faisal Pharmacy.Spinneys Centre is nearby and the enormous Mall of the Emirates is just across Interchange 4 on Sheikh Zayed Road. Umm Suqeim Library is primarily an IT centre with plenty of smart new PCs with internet access costing Dhs.3 per hour. You can also study for the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) here. The hotels like Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, and Madinat Jumeirah are located on the doorstep with lot of leisure options. The Buqtair restaurant and Portakabin opposite the fishing harbour in Umm Suqeim 1 also offer delicious food items. The Chalet Restaurant on Beach Road is famous for traditional Arabic food and juices. The cinema at Mercato is not far away, and the Wild Wadi water park is just after the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
Hospitals & Clinics
Neuro Spinal Hospital opposite Jumeirah Beach Park in Jumeira 2 is the nearest private hospital with 24 hour emergency service. For general medical treatment there is The Umm Suqeim Clinic (government).While many specialists and dentists are available along Beach Road including Advanced Chiropractic & Massage Clinic and the Euro American — Cosmetic Surgery and Telesurge Center.
Where to Study
The Emirates International School is the biggest secondary school of the area, there are also lots of other schools in nearby Jumeira. There are number of nurseries including Emirates British Nursery, Alphabet Street Nursery, British Curriculum Children’s Nursery and Le Petit Pounced (French).
Traffic & Parking
At peak hours and in school timings the Beach Road up to Media City remains busy, so do Al WasI Road, but it does flow. Parking space is well off the main roads
Safety & Annoyances
Umm Suqeim is a safe and secure area- great for families, but there are few instances of petty burglary, to remain safe keep doors locked.
