Al Garhoud

Al Garhoud with central location, range of villas and suburban feel Garhoud is a very popular residential area. Central Dubai and down town Deira are easily accessible, butt traffic can be a problem at rush hours. Accommodation isn’t always easy available. Garhoud is only two minutes drive away from airport that is why it is very popular among air port staff and frequent travelers. Rents are relatively lower than some other central areas but they have stated getting up like everywhere else.
Where to stay
There are on top of the hills has fine older villas, usually with well nurtured gardens and plenty of character. They are available at relatively cheap rates considering the central location. Depending on the age of the villa the price of a three bed room ranges anywhere between Dhs 150,000 and Dhs 250,000. But it’s really difficult to find somewhere vacant. Away from the air port lower down the hill there are some new villas mainly in compounds. That are similar in standard and price to villas in other areas of Dubai.

The normal size is four bedrooms, which goes for an average of Dhs 220,000.The whole area is inhabited by a mix of nationalities with air line staff monopolizing the accommodation. There are apartment at Al Garhoud complex by the CasBlanca Road next to Al Busta Rotana hotel The average price is currently Dhs. 95,000+ for a two- bedroom apartment. Across the road from this complex, near the Irish Village and tennis stadium there are some apartments but they are used for Emirates staff accommodation.
Where to Shop
Garhoud has two good super markets as well as laundry, a pharmacy, photo shop, and an ATM. There are also number of small restaurants that offer takeaway and delivery. At 10 minutes drive away is Deira City Center which offers everything from washing machine to Wellington boots. Along Casablanca Road there are several car cleaners, tyre shops and petrol stations, while the area near Welcare Hospital has a massage center, beauty salon and hairdressers.
Fun & leisure
Kids really enjoy the park in Garhoud because it has a stake ramp, a sandy foot ball pitch and some good play ground equipment. For indoor activities lovers, magic planet in Deira city center is a large amusement center with an eleven screen cinema. For eating out Garhoud residents have plenty of options there are many outstanding restaurants and bars in the Al Bustan Rotana, the Le Meriden Dubai, the Millennium Airport Hotel, Century village. Garhoud is one of the few residential areas where one can actually walk to the pub.
Hospitals & Clinics
There is no government clinic in the area but some good private medical facilities such as Welcare Hospital are available, two of the major government hospitals, Al Wasl and Rashid, are only a short distance away across the creek.
Where to Study
Deira international school, American School of Dubai and Cambridge international School and many other schools are located along the road on the southern edge of Garhoud. There are several schools accessible in areas like Umm Hurair, Al Tawar and Festival City. Yellow Brick Road Nursery and Montessori Nursery are in the neighborhood.
Traffic and Parking
Traffic in the area is generally bearable and usually there are no problems around the residential roads but crossing the Garhoud Bridge is a big problem. Parking is not a problem and it is a safe area for kids and pedestrians. Taxis are easily available, and the fare of the trade centre is around Dhs 20.
Safety and Annoyances
Garhoud is a safe area, very peaceful and suburban, with wide roads, quite streets and grassy areas are well suited for children to play in or for people to walk, cycle or jog along. Crime level is low. The only main irritation is the jamming of Garhoud Bridge and the noise of aircrafts.
